SACRAMENT PREPARATION
Reconciliation and EucharistWe are truly grateful to walk with families as they prepare their children for these beautiful Sacraments. It is a privilege to share in such an important step in a child’s faith life.
Our preparation program unfolds over two years. Although these years often line up with first and second grade, the program itself is not strictly tied to a particular grade level. We encourage parents to reach out when they feel their child is ready — this may be anywhere from kindergarten through fifth grade.
During the first year, we focus on helping children come to know God more deeply. They learn about God the Father, the life of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. We explore God’s plan of salvation and how each of us has a place within it. Children are introduced to Mary, the angels, and the saints, and they begin learning our traditional prayers.
NOTE: If your child is older than first grade, that is perfectly fine! However, if you would like to do a fast-track preparation for Second Year Sacrament Preparation, we also offer BLAST OFF!, a summer program that will cover the basics of the faith in a fun VBS format. This year's BLAST OFF! is scheduled for August 2-6, 6:30 - 8 p.m. Children attend with an adult. HERE is a link to register!
In the second year, we prepare children for their first reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation (Penance) and Holy Communion. The emphasis is on understanding God’s mercy and recognizing the great gift of receiving Jesus in the Eucharist.
Parents and Children Together
Our program is designed so that parents and children attend together. Over time, we have seen how valuable this is. Parents often discover that they are learning and growing in their own faith — sometimes at a deeper level than they expected — while children see clearly that these Sacraments matter not only to them, but to their whole family.
When families prepare together, the experience becomes richer, more meaningful, and more lasting.
